A view from the castle to Hausach |
But before everything else, let me tell you about the difference of the two main sorts of trails here. First of all a trail in german is called "Wanderung" or "Wanderweg". Then there's the Genießerpfad (pleasure trail) and Qualitätsweg (quality trail), also knwon as Premiumweg. The first one (Genießerpfad) is a trail that offers additional value to your hike with particularly attractive landscapes and inducements, such as cultural or culinary highlights. The second one (Qualitätsweg) sets Germany-wide standarts for hiking trails and brings, most of all, quality(just as the name shows) and benefits for the hiking tourism. At the Ach-Square there are predominantly Genießerpfäde. We hiked the majority of them and each one had something special to reveal about the region. And as it often happens in life, we have a favourite "child", namely "Genießerpfad Hausacher Bergsteig".
The start of the trail is at the outskirts of the town of Hausach. If you go on a Sunday, you'll be lucky and have plenty of parking opportunities. On any other day, look for street parking or start here: parking lot of store Edeka. This trail begins and ends at Burg Husen (Husen Castle), which opens a wonderful view to the town, hugged by the surrounding hills that surround it. And again the day is important, as on Sundays you'll not be able to go inside and climb the tower. Before all, I would like to mention, that we walked the trail backwards, but we found it actually better, as it is mid-difficult and the view from the castle at the end felt as a great prize.
At the foot of the castle go right (if you'd like to hike as we did) and you'll enjoy the beautiful outskirts of the outskirts, with a view to the town's church. The path is constantly changing, going up and down, but it's not so bad. Just keep your pace and enjoy the nature.
After about 7km, we approached a very nice and cozy farm where we were welcomed by all kinds of farm animals. We hurried up and behind the building, looking for a good resting spot, but we had to slow down, as we were stopped by a sea full of hills and a sign that told us more about this place. From there the next 1-2km take you through the forest. But we saw a light at the end of the tree tunnel and came out to a huge meadow called
"Uhlseppe-Eck". I'm sorry, but I can't think of a suitable adjective to describe what we saw.(You could always visit our Facebook and Instagram pages for more photos and videos:). When you are at the 11km at a conjunction, look to your right and you'll see a very well-made point view with a heart-shaped frame and a big bench for some rest. At the last kilometer before getting to the castle, you'll find a big playground and a few fun spots for children. Now go and read our next post on hikes in the Black Forest to get inspired for your next small adventure in this lovely region!
